Discover Janesville: Suicide Prevention with Lexie Seaver, Tony Farrell, Sr., and Jessie Benash

Tony Farrell, Sr.Suicide Prevention was the theme of this podcast.  Yuri was joined in the Janesville Community Radio studio by Tony Farrell, Sr., Rock County deputy coroner, a volunteer position in which he travels all across Rock County and beyond, sharing the important information about suicide prevention, and talking to groups big and small about the importance of detection.

Lexie Seaver

Lexie Seaver attempted suicide twice, and following the second attempt she was hospitalized, which eventually led to the discovery and removal of a grapefruit-sized tumor out of Lexie’s head.  Lexie shared her perspective on what it was like to try to commit suicide, and how realization of what it will feel like for her family to find her body, made her pull back and call 911 just as the pills were dissolving in her stomach.

Jessie Benash is a mental health councilor and is one of the organizers of the YES Suicide Awareness and Prevention Walk for Rock County.  Together the show’s guests guests the stigma that surrounds suicide, the survivor’s guilt, and how death by suicide is different from others.

In the last few minutes, Yuri updated the listeners and shared his take on the latest news from Ukraine.
