State Representative Janis RinghandState Representative Janis Ringhand in her latest appearance on Discover Janesville, updated the listeners on the latest developments at the Capitol, where the State Assembly is in the waining days of the legislative session is passing legislation so outlandish, even Republican-controlled Senate is rejecting some of it.   Representative Ringhand also spoke about her campaign for the State Senate seat made available by the retiring State Senator Tim Cullen.  Janis also gave an update on the status of her “Cookie” bill, which will allow individual bakers to sell certain limited amount of baked goods without requiring a commercial licensed kitchen.

Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Michael KruegerMichael Krueger is the Executive Director of the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra, stopped in to talk about the upcoming events, such as the silent movie showcase, a hugely popular event taking place annually during the Beloit International Film Festival.  A big fan of silent films, Yuri was excited to share an exciting bit of trivia about Chaplin’s connection to Janesville.

To conclude the show, Members of the Pancake Riot played one more original song “Wisconsin”, Yuri updated the listeners on the latest with Janesville Community Page, Janesville Community Coffee and Janesville Community Dinner, and Edie Baran of Janesville Community Radio’s ArtSpark told the listeners about some of the arts events coming up this weekend in the area in this week’s ArtSpark Arts Update.

Jaysen Jorgensen is a mild-mannered insurance agent by day, and a community booster by night.  Actually, Jaysen is a community booster 24 hours a day.  He stopped by the Janesville Community Radio studio to talk about the different projects where he is involved, working to make Janesville a better place to work and play.  Jaysen also shared his experience being tased for a good cause at 2013 National Night Out celebration, why he rides for causes and why he believes the goals of Project 16:49 can be achieved.

Melissa Atkins Wardy

Melissa Atkins Wardy stopped by the studio to talk about her website, book and business centered on helping parents embrace the unique gender nature of their child.  What began as a business selling t-shirts that promote girls in science and medicine, Melissa is now running a popular blog called “Pigtail Pals and Ballcap Buddies” and has written a book called “Redefining Girly”.

Our resident expert Dan Hartung, stopped in to talk about what it takes to get noticed on Facebook, and how having more fans can cause a Facebook page to become less visible.  Following our discussion on the pitfalls of the social media behemoth, we discussed the economic outlook in Janesville, and what closure of JC Penney means.  We concluded our conversation by talking about a sad streak of violence and crime that made local, national and international news in recent days, and what may be some of its root causes.

Milwaukee in Janesville), join Yuri to talk about the upcoming Arfctic Art event coming up on February 15th from 10 am – 4 pm at the Pontiac Center.

Next, Yuri shared his thoughts on the Sochi 2014 Olympics. From concerns about security to the general air of unpreparedness of the host city and the ongoing political repressions in Putin’s Russia, Yuri finds it hard to be excited about these games.

Dianne Young is a professional public speaker and she joined Yuri to talk about her upcoming show on Janesville Community Radio, in which Dianne will highlight success stories in the area and beyond.

Winner of Janesville Area Creativity (JAC) Roots award, Callie Schouten, called the program from her home in Las Vegas to talk about her career as a professional stage dancer. Callie shared the advice she gives young dancers she mentors and her excitement and appreciation for having been recognized with a JAC award.

An upcoming art show at My Office – JVL – home of Janesville Community Radio – will feature art centering on the human body and nudity. Adena Zastrow – one of the artists featured – called the program to preview the exhibit and to  talk about her life as an artist from an artistic family.
