On this episode of Discover Janesville with Yuri Rashkin: Since my first guest was not able to join me, I spent the first half hour doing piano improvisations (luckily I always bring my piano with me). From there, the program took a decidedly community-minded tone as I was joined by Tony Farrell, Sr., volunteer extraordinaire who spoke about a program by Voigt music – run by Tony Farrell, Jr. – that gives away thousands of free music folders to kids in Rock county schools every year. Next, Amanda Hauser Byrne of the Little Bean coffee shop called in to talk about the suspended coffee program, and finally Tom Brien, who spent 16 years on Janesville City Council, stopped in and we remembered Ronnie Thomas who passed away a few days ago, following a lifetime of service. Perhaps the best way to summarize the program is with the quote by President Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”. Be in the know.
